KULIM, April 22 (Bernama) -- Quick action by members of the public prevented a year one student from being fatally mauled by a Rotweiller at Taman Sejahtera, Lunas, near here yesterday.

In the 2.15 pm incident, Nor Hanani, 7, was riding pillion on her brother's bicycle when the dog suddenly attacked them.

According to the father, Harun Md Isa, 36, Nor Hanani fell from the bicycle when the dog was chasing them. Her brother Mohammad Aiman managed to escape.

The dog attacked the student furiously although residents tried to chase it away by beating it with objects, including a broom, but only stopped when a resident smashed a bicycle on it.

The Sekolah Kebangsaan Lunas Jaya student received more than 20 stitches at the Kulim Hospital.

Harun, who works at Kilang Lama, thanked the public for helping Nor Hanani.

He lodged a police report at the Lunas Police station.

It is believed the Rotweiller belonged to a resident of Taman Desa Seni, located near the scene of the attack.

Kulim District Deputy Police Chief ASP Hamdan Basiron when contacted confirmed the report was lodged.—BERNAMA
