The Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) kicked off its “Home For Every Soul” campaign at the Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Five felines and five canines were brought to the shopping centre for adoption for a minimal fee.

The society’s chairman Christine Chin said that more and more animals are brought to the SPCA but the adoption rate is very low.

“That is why we have come up with the campaign where we bring the animals out, instead of people coming to our premises in Ampang (Selangor),” she said.

She added that due to the lack of space and financial aid, SPCA had to put many animals to sleep each year.

“We are urging the public to help us. We are looking for more venues for the campaign like shopping complexes,  churches  or  malls.  Just

let us know and we can organise something,” said Chin.

The adoption fest at the BSC was launched by Motown Charity Extravaganza members Donne Ray Radford and Steve Carson.

Those who would like to organise an adoption fest, can contact SPCA at (03) 4256-5312 or 4253-5179.
