Animals, dogs in particular, can help reduce friction and enhance ties
between colleagues, says PRIS HENDRICKS, a firm believer in office pets.
PETS are a
huge part of our lives and most of us would love to have them with us at all
times, even at work.
Having a pet reduces stress and increases the feeling of well-being.
Besides, having dogs in the office for example, may even help enhance ties
between colleagues.
Animals do not discriminate. All they know is, “He or she is nice and I like
him/her.”
In some companies overseas, office dogs actually help increase productivity.
No, the dog does not help one do his job. Instead, employees are willing to
work late.
It may be
due to the heightened sense of safety that comes with the presence of a dog.
Office dogs also offer companionship to out-of-state workers who would
rather stay back at work than go home to a lonely apartment.
However, certain considerations need to be taken before pets are allowed in
the office.
Firstly, the animal should be free of fleas, ticks and mites. It is handy to
keep around a bottle of parasite repellent.
Some people
do not know it but they may have allergies, so it is basically being
considerate to fellow employees.
It is also important not to leave pets unattended.

Up for adoption this week, Mui Mui (left) and Barbie. |
Take it out for
walks or let it stretch out in an empty room for a few minutes.
And last but not least, never play favorites if your office allows or has more
than one office pet.
Fights are no good when each working day is already a battle in itself.
Up for adoption
THERE are
plenty of healthy animals looking for a second chance in life. Come and meet Mui
Mui and Barbie this week.
