KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22: Dalwanto Sairun is foregoing his sleep
tonight.
The 43-year-old trader is anxious to know whether his
18-month-old son Mohd Haikhal, admitted to a quarantined ward at
the Kuala Lumpur Hospital early this morning, is
free from the H5N1
virus.

His youngest son has been having a fever for the past four days
and Health Ministry officials making their rounds at Rumah
Panjang Wardieburn last night told him to admit the toddler in
hospital. |
"I did not sleep last night and don’t think I can do so until I
know that he is all right. My other children have been asking
about their little brother and I do not know what to say to
them," he said.
Dalwanto has three other children, Lizarahmawati, 13, Azhar
Sulaiman, 11, and Mohd Faizal, three.
He
said his wife Iryani Derih, 38, was staying with Haikhal at the
KLH after leaving their other children with relatives. |
He said since another family in the longhouse he is living in is
rearing chicken, he fears the worst.
Haikhal and seven other villagers came for a
check-up this morning but only the boy was admitted.
Meanwhile for other residents at Dalwanto’s village, it was just
another weekday night despite being inside the 1.5km quarantine
zone.
Children were playing and adults chatting at foodstalls while
health officials made their rounds. |
