KANGAR: Do not shoot or eat migratory birds. The advice is from Perlis State Rural Development and Argiculture committee chairman Khairi Hassan. He said this was a precautionary measure to prevent bird flu infection. He said migratory birds frequented padi fields and also areas close to the Timah Tasoh dam. |
“Although the birds are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, there are some people who shoot and eat them,” he said. He was speaking to re-porters yesterday after Men-tri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim had handed out aid to 1,300 farmers whose crops were destroyed in last December's floods. |
Khairi said there were no cases of bird flu in the state so far but precautionary measures were being taken. He said the State Vete-rinary Services Department was monitoring chicken farms and conducting stringent checks at the Malaysia-Thai border areas.
