KUALA LUMPUR: The bird flu scare has not stopped people from enjoying their weekend. At the National Zoo, families and couples were strolling about, unperturbed that the zoo is located within the 10km radius of the area where 40 chickens died of the H5N1 virus. “We are not worried about it. There hasn’t been any confirmed human cases right? I don’t see why it should interfere with our family outings,” said engineer Kidman Cezeree, 33, who was at the zoo with his family.

IT engineer Seji James, 32, who was at the zoo with his wife, said: “We have stopped eating chicken, but we’re not worried about going out.” The Indian expatriate, who has been in Malaysia for two years, said he did not find the current situation alarming. Zoo officials said there was only a slight drop in the number of visitors.
