ATHENS: Greece increased its border controls on Wednesday for fear that the deadly bird virus could enter the country from neighbouring Turkey. "There should be no panic but we are on full alert," Health Minister Nikitas Kaklamanis told reporters following a cabinet meeting. "Everything humanly possible is being done," he added. |
Customs officials and guards at Evros along the northeastern Turkish border have been issued with new instructions for inspections and all vehicles arriving from Turkey are being disinfected. Greece has banned all animal produce arriving from Turkey and is spraying vehicles entering the country from its north-eastern border as a precaution. dpa |
