Dept: Dead pigeons to be tested for bird flu
Metro, 23 Mar 2006

IT will take seven to 14 days to get the test results of the five dead pigeons found under a signboard at a shop house in Jalan Datuk Keramat, Penang, on Sunday.

State Veterinary Services director Dr Zairi Serlan said the dead birds would be tested for the avian flu virus as a “surveillance” case.

“If mortality of 3% or more is discovered in an area, such as a farm, the department will classify the case as urgent.

“Test results will be available within one to three days in urgent cases,” he said.
