SINGAPORE (May 20, 2008): Seven vicious attacks on cats have prompted animal lovers to offer a reward for information and to start patrols, animal welfare groups said today.

The offer of S$10,000 (US$7,400) has been pledged by SOS Animals, the Cat Welfare Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Two cats discovered dead on May 2 were believed to have been dunked in paint thinner, The Straits Times reported. A third cat, also dunked but barely alive, had to be euthanized.

Three other cats were founding dying of stab wounds. A fourth was dead with a fractured jaw.

"We hope the public can be alert and help us keep a lookout for any suspicious characters," said Sandy Lim, founder of SOS Animals. - dpa
