The Sun, 23 Nov 2005

BEIJING: China said yesterday three new outbreaks of deadly bird flu had been detected, bringing the total number of confirmed outbreaks in the country to 24 this year. One outbreak each struck in northwest China's Xinjiang and Ningxia regions while a third hit Yunnan province in the southwest. In Vietnam, a teenager has been confirmed with the H5N1 bird flu virus.

Doctors from the health department of the northern port city of Haiphong said Vu Van Hoa,15, is being treated at a local hospital and "his condition is stable and slowly recovering". Meanwhile, Britain ordered doctors to restrict influenza vaccinations to people aged over 65 and other vulnerable groups as fears over bird flu sparked a run on its emergency reserve. Agencies
