MEET Felix the cat. Behind its loving disposition belies an uncertain future.

For it is one of the estimated 30 stray cats abandoned at a recently-vacated squatter settlement in Jalan Mesra, Ampang in Kuala Lumpur.

Felix and the other strays rounded up by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will be put up for public adoption on November 12 from 2pm to 4pm at the abandoned settlement at Jalan Mesra. For directions, call SPCA at (03) 4256-5312.

“An animal lover, Mark Harris, alerted us to the cats at the Jalan Mesra squatter settlement and when we went there to check, we spotted

about 30 strays and managed to get hold of one cat which we named Felix,” says SPCA inspector Sabrina Yeap.

“A team of us are going there again tomorrow to Wednesday to track down all the other strays. Harris is paying for the strays’ upkeep until November 12.”

Yeap said that the cats nabbed would undergo rehabilitation, including having them neutered to curb overpopulation.

“During the public adoption on November 12, the cats will be placed in cages for people to view and adopt. We hope all the strays will end up in the homes of caring owners,” she said.

“Details of the owners will be recorded to ensure that the felines would be brought back for vaccination and de-worming if necessary.”

Those who adopt the cats are encouraged to donate at least RM70, and sponsorship from individuals and corporate sector are also welcomed.

Yeap said SPCA will assist those owners who need transport to the society’s Selangor premises at Jalan Kerja Ayer Lama in Ampang Jaya.
