Saudi Prepares Against Outbreak Of Bird Flu

RIYADH, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The Saudi Arabian government is preparing itself against the possible outbreak of bird flu which affected many Asian countries, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

As an initial measure, the Saudi Ministry of Health allocated SR25 million (RM25.1 million) to buy medicine which can be used for treatment and protection from the deadly disease.

The measure is part of a comprehensive and national plan in facing and controlling this disease if it occurs, official said.

Assistant Undersecretary of Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Health Dr Yaqoob Yosef Al-Mazroa' stated that the ministry had taken all necessary measures against the disease.

He denied that there was suspected cases of the bird flu in the Kingdom.

He said that his ministry was coordinating with other agencies such as the agricultural ministry, against the spread of the disease.

Dr Yaaqob said that the National Commission was also testing and taking samples from migrated birds to ensure that they are not infected with the flu.
