Two More Cases Of Bird Flu Confirmed In Indonesia

JAKARTA, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed two more bird flu cases in Indonesia, the ANTARA news agency said in its report filed Tuesday.

SW (23), a resident of Bogor near Jakarta, and HEN (4), a resident of Lampung, Sumatra, were confirmed to have been infected with the bird flu virus, as shown by laboratory tests at Hong Kong University.

"This is an old case but confirmation was only issued last Monday," the director of animal-linked disease control, Hariadi    Wibisono,   said   here

Tuesday.

SW died on Sept 29 at the Sulianto Saroso hospital here. She was admitted to the hospital which on Sept 28 had been designated for treating bird flu patients, from RS Bina Husada hospital in Bogor.

He died the day after dead chickens were found at his home.

HEN, the cousin of H (21), a resident of Lampung, Sumatra, who was also suspected of being infected with the disease, meanwhile had recovered.

Wibisono said that the ministry of health had already examined the blood samples of people who had contacts with them but the results were all negative.

A father and his son who were recently admitted to the Sulianto Suroso hospital on suspicion of having been infected with bird flu meanwhile had tested negative.

The ministry however would send the samples of their blood for further tests at the Hong Kong University's laboratory.
 

Until Oct 14, the number of bird flu cases in Indonesia reached 44 and 14 of them had died.

The WHO however has only confirmed five cases so far with four deaths.-- BERNAMA
