Sheena was definitely abused |
I FOUND the remarks by Dog Owner of Malacca, “Sometimes discipline may be seen as an abuse,” (The Star, Oct 21), most stupefying. I cannot imagine anyone mistaking a case of cruelty as in the story you highlighted about Sheena the German Shepherd as a matter of a dog being restricted by shackles for a short period of time. And to go on using that sort of a flimsy argument as a reason to avoid imposing tough penalties on pet owners who are cruel to animals under their care is just as ludicrous. |
Doesn't the writer realize that in Sheena’s case, the matter was carefully investigated by the veterinary services department and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals when the action was taken? Did the writer not see the ghastly picture The Star printed along with the story of Sheena? It would be silly for anyone to imagine that if tougher fines were to be introduced, enforcement officers would immediately rush out and go on an “arresting spree,” nabbing all dog |
owners who so much as fasten a metal chain around their pets’ necks. What Dog Owner says clearly shows he does not possess an understanding of canine behavior even though he says he owns one.
