ALFRED Adaikalaraj likes animals and this fondness has inspired him to publish Malaysia’s only pet magazine, Petworld, for the ninth year. His wife Beatrice Nirmala is the managing editor of the magazine.

Based in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, Alfred also publishes two other magazines Technology Business Review and Music! His latest magazine Passions will be launched on Oct 1.

His compassion for abandoned animals has led Alfred to adopt three dogs from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

"I have a German Shepherd, a St Bernard    and   a   Rottweiler   cross.   I

wanted to give them a home," he said.

For pet lovers, Oct 1 will be a special day as it is World Animal Day.

Petworld, Eukanuba and The Iams Company have organised a Pets Fair on Oct 1 and 2 to commemorate the special day.

There will be a dog carnival for non-pedigrees, a dog championship for pedigrees, a cat championship for pedigree and household cats, a dog and owner agility course and an SPCA adoption showcase, among others.

A new Ekanuba extra tasty sauce for dogs, magazines and pet food samples worth RM6 will be given away.

Owners of the first 100 dogs to register will receive free micro-chipping for pet identification.

The fair will be held from 10.30am to 8pm for both days at the Mines Exhibition Centre, Hall C.

"Please don’t come at 7.30pm because the show will end at 8pm," Alfred said.

Admission is RM5 per person and free for children under 12 years.

There is a walk-in registration to register your dog for the carnival, at RM5 per pet.
