I refer to the letter Two Sides of a Story (Speaking Up, Aug 23) by Dog Sense III who presented a negative picture of dogs. I do not deny the fact that dogs can and sometimes pose problems to people and society. However, it is important for all of us to educate ourselves that it is never the dog’s fault but rather the irresponsible owner who raised hapless four-legged creatures to behave in such a way. This principle applies exactly to the way we bring up children. |
By painting such a bad, exaggerated picture of our canine friends, Dog Sense III has turned a blind eye to the many remarkable contributions of our four-footed friends. I can think of scores of such examples: Our police dogs which help to fight crime, rescue dogs that are willing to give up their lives in order to save human lives, domesticated dogs that unflinchingly help to protect children and women from harm and danger, and special therapy dogs that offer comfort, hope, friendship and healing for the infirm and the elderly. |
I pray that Dog Sense III will never find himself in such a nasty predicament one day where he will require the assistance of such a canine. However, for those of us who do, we’ll always be appreciative and indebted to our darling dogs. Dog Sense IV, Petaling Jaya
