Abacot Ranger
Origin: Great Britain. Dual purpose. Weighs 5-6 lbs. Carriage similar to Campbell.

   

 

   
Ancona
Origin: Great Britain. Averages 6-6.5 lbs. Combination of white & color - Black & White, Blue & White, Chocolate & White, Silver & White, Lavender & White, & Tricolored. Hardy, adaptable, all-purpose duck. Excellent layer, typically laying 210-280 white, cream, or blue eggs yearly. Grows relatively quickly, & produces high quality meat that is more flavorful & less fatty than Pekin ducks. 
 

 

 

 

Silver Appleyard
Origin: Great Britain. Drakes weigh 8-9 lbs, beetle green head & neck, throat white with fawn markings. Ducks 7-8 lbs,  silvery white with heavy flecking of fawn on back. Good layer – about 100-180 large eggs.


Aylesbury
ORIGIN : Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Great Britain. Drakes weigh 4.5-5.4 kg,
ducks 4.1-5 kg. Very efficient converters of feed .Also lay up to 300 eggs/year.
Pure white colour.

 

 

 

Buff
Origin: England. Various colours – reddish fawn, black, chocolate, blue or bluish-slate (all with white bib). Considered a good dual purpose breed – large quantities of high quality eggs & grow fast. Follow the Pekin in size and shape.

 

 
Blue Swedish
Origin: Germany. 2 varieties – Blue & Black (mostly Blue) with white bibs. Similar to Rouen. Large, first rate dual purpose duck. Hardy. Drakes reach 8 lbs, ducks 7 lbs & lay well. Eggs bluish-green. 

 

 

 

 

Cayuga
Origin: Lake Cayuga, New York. Broad, long bodied meat duck. Very attractive bred mostly for show. Black with lustrous beetle green sheen on feathers. About 12-16 weeks to finish as market bird. Drakes – 3.62 kg ducks – 3.17 kg. Seasonal layer. Large, dark grey to bluish-green eggs. 80-100 eggs.


 

White Crested
Origin: Great Britain. Has a puffball on top of head. Otherwise, similar to Pekin. Good dual purpose duck. Lay very well – admirable quantity. Rapid growth. Drake – 6 lbs, ducks – 5 lbs. ¼ of eggs never hatch, another ¼ hatch without crest. Difficult to breed. Not extensively bred.
 

 

   

Indian Runners
Origin: SEA. Popular, prolific layer. Leghorns of the duck family. Egg production: 300. 8 varieties – Fawn &  White, White, Penciled, black, buff, chocolate, grey & Cumberland Blue. Fawn & White most popular. Drakes weigh 4-4½ lbs, ducks 3½-4 lbs. Do not waddle, but can move around extremely fast. Always in a hurry Unique aspect - Long, sleek body with upright stance. “A bowling pin on feet”.

 

 

 

Khaki Campbell
Origin: England. Light breed. Often referred to as the “Leghorn of the duck world”. Excellent egg producer. Production – 275-340 eggs/year weighing approximately
71-75 gms each. Extremely hardy. 3 varieties – Khaki, Dark & White.
Drakes  - weight 2.5-3 kg; Ducks 2-2.5 kg. Breeding – 1:10
 

 

   

Muscovy
Origin: Brazil. Only domestic ducks not derived from Mallard.
Originally called Musk duck. Largest of all ducks. White Muscovy is the most popular variety for meat. Firmest meat, lean & tasty. Rapid weight gain. Drake weighs about 4.5-6.5kg, ducks 2.2-4.5 kg. Technically almost a goose. Do not quack, but make hissing sound instead. Nicknamed “Turkey duck” due to red wrinkled faces. 8-21 eggs per clutch. Incubation: 35-36 days.Colours - blue, blue & white, chocolate, chocolate & white, white, black, black & white, lavender & calical.

 

 

 

   

Pekin
Origin: China. Most common pick for commercial farmers (meat production). Fast growth rate & good feed conversion. Drakes will reach live market weight of about 9-12 lbs. in 8 weeks, ducks 8-9 lbs. Extremely hardy. White colour. Also lay about 160 eggs a season. Breeding – 1:5.


Rouen
Origin: France. Large, decorative, coloured like wild Mallard. Said to have most flavourful meat. Moderate layers. 100-150/year. Egg has a blue tine. Drakes weigh 8-9 lbs, ducks 6-7 lbs. Have to have 15” plus water to mate.  

 


 

Saxony
Origin: German. Heavy breed - Males weigh 8 pounds, females around 7.  Dual purpose. Drakes colored somewhat like faded Mallard, ducks a soft buff; both have a hint of greyish-blue to their plumage. Lay around 150 eggs/year
 

 

 
Swedish Yellow
Developed from the Blue Swedish. Always yellow colour. Not as meaty as the Blue, but much better layer. Weighs 3-3.5 kg.

 

 

 

Welsh Harlequin
Origin: Wales. Light breed layer:  275-350 eggs per year. Calmer than Campbells.
